Employers FAQs

Supported employment is a service provided by qualified agencies where assistance is provided to the person with disabilities to secure and maintain employment by the employment standards. Support is also provided to the Employer to create inclusive workplaces.

Developmental disabilities are a group of conditions due to an impairment in physical, learning, language, or behaviour areas. These conditions begin during the developmental period, may impact day-to-day functioning, and usually last throughout a person’s lifetime.1

According to Statistics Canada, 22% of the Canadian population aged 15+ had one or more disabilities in 2017. That’s one in five people, or about 6.3 million people total.

There are immense and several benefits of hiring a person with a developmental disability. By hiring inclusively, you will be enhancing your company culture, and morale and improving your bottom line.

Hiring a person with a disability is a smart business as employees with disabilities work hard, have good attendance records, low turnover, and good safety records, and help your business to create an image that gives you a competitive edge.

Statistics have demonstrated that people with disabilities have better records. They have a positive attitude and are reliable and happy.

We understand the importance of the interview and hiring process in making the right candidate selection. The process will be similar, if any accommodation is required, the employment specialist will communicate and work with the employer to reach a successful outcome.

This is where we as a service, step in. Many employers are unsure about how to go about the process. When an employer works with an employment service such as WISE, assistance will be provided to the employer with every step of the process from finding the right fit, onboarding, job coaching and more. We are committed to helping employers create inclusive workplaces.

As an employment service, we work hard to create the right opportunity for both the employee and the employer but employment may not last for various reasons and we will respectfully support the exit process. We would love to continue to maintain the relationship with the employer for future possibilities.

There is no cost for the employer!
