Fifteen participants joined the project, and in July and August 2024 they attended in-person workshops focused on employment readiness. These sessions covered topics such as career interests, workplace expectations, self-assessment, young worker safety, and interview skills. Following the workshops, participants received one-on-one support from an Employment Specialist to develop personalized Discovery Synopses and Employment Action Plans, helping them navigate their job searches with clarity and confidence.
A significant milestone was the successful employment of several participants during the summer and fall. The project emphasized inclusive hiring by engaging employers, addressing workplace barriers, and promoting the benefits of a diverse workforce. Strategies such as employer education, customized job matching, and accessibility accommodations played a key role in supporting Indigenous and racialized youth, key focus group of this project. Additionally, on-site and off-site job coaching helped participants integrate into their roles, build workplace relationships, and gain independence.
Beyond employment, the project encouraged professional growth by supporting participants in obtaining certifications like First Aid, Food Safe, and WHMIS, strengthening their job prospects. The project not only provided employment opportunities but also fostered confidence, independence, and long-term workplace inclusion, creating lasting impact for both participants and employers.
